What is BikePass?
BikePass is your digital bike passport including Europe-wide registration. It stores core data, photos, components, receipts and a unique proof of ownership – all GDPR-compliant and hosted securely in Europe.
What is the BikePass ID (security marking set)?
The BikePass ID is a special sticker and protection set that lets you mark your bike unmistakably. The robust, tamper-proof sticker carries an individual ID and a QR code that is linked to your digital BikePass. That way a finder, a buyer or the police can identify your bike straight away.
How exactly does the security marking / sticker ID work?
With a security marking set you receive two tamper-proof stickers – one for your bike and one for your battery, if you own an e-bike.
After fitting them, you link the ID to your bike in the BikePass app. If the bike is found or checked, anyone can scan the code and receives the relevant information without seeing any personal data about you.
Can the BikePass sticker simply be peeled off?
No, you will not get it off cleanly. The special adhesive withstands several kilograms of pull; an attempt to peel it off always leaves visible adhesive edges or paint damage — and precisely in the spot where bikes are usually security-marked. For any buyer that is a clear warning sign.
The sticker is:
- not removable without leaving traces
- UV-, weather- and heat-resistant
- protected against abrasion by a laminate
- uniquely assigned to one ID
That makes removal or replacement by thieves extremely difficult, but of course not impossible.
What happens if a thief removes the sticker?
Your bike stays protected. The registration is linked digitally to your frame number and remains in place independently of the sticker — the theft status can be checked at any time by finders, buyers and the police. The sticker is the visible deterrent; the actual protection sits in the register. On top of that: the set contains two stickers for the frame and the battery — a thief would have to find both in the first place.
Can I use BikePass without a sticker?
Yes. You can register your bike entirely digitally – even without a BikePass ID. For maximum protection, however, we recommend combining the digital passport and physical security marking.
What happens if my bike has been stolen?
You can report the theft in the BikePass web app. The ID becomes visible to the authorities, and you receive a proof of ownership for the police and your insurer. Finders can contact you anonymously.
Does reporting a theft to BikePass replace reporting it to the police?
No, we recommend reporting the theft and filing a police report in every case. You can also reference that report in your BikePass.
What happens if someone finds my bike and scans the QR code?
On scanning, the finder gets a page with:
- information on the authenticity of the bike
- a note that the bike has been reported missing or stolen (if applicable)
- the option to reach you through an anonymous contact channel
No personal data is disclosed.
Is BikePass compatible with the police?
Yes. As a Europe-wide register, BikePass is also accessible to the authorities.
When a bike is found or checked, police and public order offices can quickly see whether it is registered or reported stolen. Either through the search or through our BikePass API.
Can I transfer my BikePass to the next owner?
Yes, and it is very simple. You can hand your bike over to the new owner digitally in just a few clicks. That builds trust when selling and prevents misuse.
Do I have to take my bike somewhere to have it security-marked?
No! With the BikePass security marking set you can fit it yourself at home – no tools, no appointment, no waiting.
Does BikePass also work with other security markings (e.g. ADFC)?
Yes. You can easily record existing security markings or serial numbers in your BikePass and use them to create a complete proof of ownership.
What is the difference to other markings such as ADFC security marking or the serial number?
Other markings such as the serial number or ADFC security marking offer only local or limited identification, but no digital proof of ownership.
Serial number:
- issued by the manufacturer
- often hard to find
- not centrally registered
- no link to ownership
- easy to remove or paint over
ADFC security marking:
- engraving only possible on site
- damages the frame, the warranty is void or it is not possible on modern frames (carbon)
- not retrievable consistently across Europe
- no central, accessible database
- ownership transfer is difficult
- no direct contact channel to the owner
BikePass & BikePass ID:
- digital registration + physical ID
- retrievable across Europe
- unique proof of ownership (photos, components, documents)
- anonymous contact option for finders
- easy to fit at home
- quick ownership transfer when selling
- compatible with existing serial numbers & markings
In short: BikePass is the modern, digital and Europe-wide verifiable evolution of classic security markings.
Is BikePass GDPR-compliant?
100 %. All data is hosted in Europe and is visible only to you, unless you explicitly release parts of it (e.g. when selling or in a found-bike case).
Which types of bike is BikePass suitable for?
For all of them: city bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes, folding bikes, custom bikes or self-built bikes.
How long does registration take?
Less than 3 minutes.
Fit the sticker, scan the QR code, add your details – done.
What does BikePass cost?
We do not like subscription models, so the pricing is deliberately simple: the digital bike passport (registering your bikes) is free. The BikePass ID – the security marking set with sticker – is a one-off purchase. No subscription, no running costs.
What do I do if I have to cover over or refit my bike or the ID?
We replace a damaged sticker free of charge. You then simply update or re-link the ID in the app.
What happens if I lose my smartphone?
No problem. BikePass is a web app. You can log in on any device – your bike data stays safely stored.
Can I register several bikes?
Yes, as many as you like. BikePass is also suitable for families, clubs and fleets.
